The university is an academic and artistic community and students are equal members of this community, as is teachers, professors and the administration. This means that students have power and possibilities to have an impact on their own studies and that the university administration, teachers and other personnel are interested in the student's opinion.
- Apply to become a student representative. University matters are decided in various official bodies, such as the University Collegium, the academies’ boards, and different working groups. All of these include student representation, and the student representatives are selected by the student union. Information about open student representative positions is available in the weekly newsletter sent to your email as well as on the student union’s website under the section Student representatives wanted (link).
- Recruiting groups has alsp student representatives. This means that when new lecturers or professors are recruited to Uniarts, a student participates in the decision-making process regarding the applicants. Information about available positions in recruitment groups can be found together with other student representative positions in the student union’s weekly newsletter and on our website.
- Student union is for you. One of the statutory duties of the student union is advocacy, meaning ensuring that students’ perspectives are represented in the university’s decision-making and in society more broadly. The student union regularly meets with the leadership of the university and its academies and takes positions on current issues, so feel free to contact the TaiYo board, the Representative Council, or staff if you have questions or even ideas about how a problem at our university should be addressed. You can find TaiYo’s contact details here (link) and more information about the student unions' activities can you find here (link).
- Be in direct contact jonkin toimielimen opiskelijaedustajaan tai yliopiston hallintoon! Opintoihin ja opiskeluun liittyvistä asioista päätetään eri paikoissa Taideyliopistotasolla, eri akatemioissa tai koulutusohjelmittain/aineryhmittäin, ja ylioppilaskunta auttaa mielellään, jos et tiedä, missä esimerkiksi jokin päätös on tehty. Tiedot yliopistokollegion, yliopiston hallituksen ja akatemioiden johtokuntien opiskelijaedustajista löytyvät here (link).
- Get involved in the activities of a committee or a subject association. Each academy has an academy committee, and the Sibelius Academy also has some subject associations. Through these, you can influence matters related especially to your own degree programme, subject group, or academy. The contact details of the committees and associations can be found here (link).
