Pessi, 29, is studying opera singing at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts and has this year acted as the chairperson of the board of the University of the Arts Student Union. At the Uniarts, he is known as an active influencer and a courageous student advocate who tackles various grievances without prejudice and with a solution-oriented approach. In addition to ArtSU, Pessi has led, for example, an opera society and his own subject organization and acted as a trustee of a multinational work community.
Pessi sees leading the student movement through a successful parliamentary election campaign as the most important project of 2023. "During the election year, SYL needs a president who is able to unite both the SYL board and the entire student movement during the elections. I believe in working together, I promote the students' common goals with a big heart, and I want to make people around me shine."
"Johannes is a proactive leader who is not afraid to bring up problems and talk directly. He copes well even in difficult influencing situations with various cooperation partners and with his nature builds a relaxed and energetic atmosphere in the entire work community," comments Viivi Tigerstedt, vice chair of the ArtSU board.
The National Union of University Students in Finland will elect next year's president and board at its general assembly in Espoo on November 18-19, 2022. TaiYo has two full and two deputy representatives at the general assembly.
