Today, September 15, is the International Day of Democracy. TaiYo's Chair Mikko Aaltio wrote about his the role of art and culture in strenghtening democracy.

We in TaiYo believe that art & culture have the power to bring people together, dismantle prejudices, strengthen communities and enable us to imagine new, better futures. These qualities should not be overlooked, especially during these times of political and societal division. That is why we in TaiYo advocate for art & culture to be accessible to everyone. Everyone should be able to learn, create, publish and enjoy art. Every voice counts.
This autumn TaiYo prepares for next spring’s parliamentary election. Our election programme is aptly named ”Finland, a total work of art”. The focus in our advocacy might be art students but we have the interest of all of Finland at heart. We believe that art & culture can strengthen democracy and resilience and change the course of a whole society – given the proper resources.
