TaiYo's chair of the board thanks for the past year

Quirky, strong and endearing are the three adjectives that Viivi Tigerstedt uses to describe the student union of the University of the Arts Helsinki she encounters when asked. Tigerstedt has chaired the Student Union of Uniarts Helsinki in 2023, and before that she has been on the Board for two years. She studies classical music at the Sibelius Academy with the accordion as her instrument

Tigerstedt feels partly relieved as the challenges change, but there is a lot of wistfulness associated with the rest of the year. Next year I am looking forward to graduating and my year as TaiYo's chairman is coming to an end. Tigerstedt will miss all the people she has become familiar with, from whom she has also learned a lot;

"I would especially like to thank this year's Board, with whom it has been enjoyable to laugh together. The team spirit has been strong, even though we have also discussed difficult issues in the meetings."

Tigerstedt describes her year as the chair of the board as fast-paced. On Vappu it was time to be nervous about May Day speeches with representatives of other student unions in the Helsinki metropolitan area, there were meetings with candidates from different parties during the parliamentary election year, and at the beginning of the year, TaiYo organised a seminar for art students. There were many discussions about the well-being of students.

TaiYo also turned ten this year. What would the chairperson of the anniversary year wish for her student union when it next turns 20 years in 2033?

Tigerstedt thinks for a moment before answering;

"I hope that by then we will have overcome these certain growing pains of the first decade. With growth and annual layers, we could be more influential nationwide overall. I also hope that we would not struggle so much with internal issues within the university, but that we would get resources for bigger work. “
