TaiYo is looking for three MCs for the Opening of the Academic Year 2025-2026. The event has traditionally had three students as MCs, representing the three academies of the universities and the three languages: Finnish, Swedish and English.
An important part of the MCs job is to make the event relaxed and welcoming for the whole community. We are looking for applicants who are willing to throw themselves into the task of MC, and who are enthusiastic about and committed to the position.
The tasks of the MCs are:

Meetings with representatives from the university planning the event

Writing their own lines

General rehearsal with representatives from the university

visit to Teak’s wardrobe for choosing a wardrobe for the event and
-
MCing the event 10.9.2026 at Myllytori in Sörnäinen Campus
Each MC will receive a payment of 400 euros for the job.
How to apply?
Applications for hosting the opening ceremony consist of a written application, a video, and an interview.
Instructions for the written application
Write an application (max 1 A4 page) where you introduce yourself, describe why you are applying for MC and what kind of possible skills or experiences you have that could be useful in the position. Remember to mention in which languages you would be able to do the task and what you study. You can write the application in one language.
Instructions for the video
Record a short video of about one minute in which you briefly introduce yourself. You can easily film the video with, for example, a phone or a computer camera. Include all the languages (Finnish, Swedish, English) that you are prepared to use when hosting the opening ceremony.
Send your application to TaiYo’s Secretary General, Jane Kärnä (taiyo-paasihteeri@uniarts.fi), by 22 April at 23:59. If no MCs from each of the academies and the three languages cannot be found through the open call, TaiYo reserves the right to select the MCs from outside the applicants.
Interview
The interviews will be held on

8 May between 8:00–9:45 and/or

12 May between 15:15–17:15.
Please indicate in your application which interview times suit you. If neither time works, feel free to propose several alternative short time slots. Prepare to present a short hosting segment (approx. 1–1.5 minutes) in which you briefly talk about the importance of community at the university and introduce a performer of your choice (real or fictional). If you are applying in more than one language, please present the segment in all the languages you are prepared to use at the opening ceremony. The interview lasts approximately 5 minutes.
