Student representatives wanted

On this page, you can find translations of the calls for applications for open positions of student representatives in the administration of the University of the Arts Helsinki. You can find all the calls for applications in Finnish here.

Uniarts Helsinki’s administrative organs normally work in Finnish, and at the moment the University requires also student representatives to be fluent in Finnish. As a result, calls for applications for student representatives are usually published only in Finnish, but whenever it is possible for non-Finnish speaking students to apply, we publish English translations of the calls on this page. The Student Union has stated that international students should have full rights to act as student representatives, and we are working with the University to put this into practice as soon as possible.

If you want to know more about what student representatives do and what acting as a student representative entails, watch the video or read more on the page Student representatives in university administration!

University Collegium of Uniarts Helsinki

The University of the Arts Student Union is looking for six (6) student members and their six personal vice members for the University Collegium of the University of the Arts Helsinki for the two-year term 1 January 2021–31 December 2022. The University Collegium is the highest decision-making body of the University of the Arts Helsinki. Among other things, it decides on the number of members, the length of the term and the remuneration of the University Board, chooses the so-called stakeholder members of the Board, appoints financial auditors, approves financial statements and the annual report and decides on freeing the rector and board members from liability for the financial accounts. The University Collegium consists of 18 members, six of whom represent professors, six other personnel and six students, and it usually meets five or six times a year. The student members of the Collegium receive a meeting fee of €40 per meeting.

The positions of student members in the University Collegium can be applied for by all registered degree students of Uniarts Helsinki who are not considered part of personnel at the university elections. The student members of the Collegium are chosen by the Representative Council of the Student Union so that two student representatives are chosen from each academy. However, if enough qualified applicants cannot be found in any of the academies, the positions can also be filled in other ways. In practice, it would be beneficial for student members of the Collegium to have some previous experience of being student representatives in administration and/or student advocacy, but most important are enthusiasm and motivation for the task. You can apply by filling in this electronic form by Monday, 30 November 2020, 12noon.
