Student representatives wanted

On this page, you can find translations of the calls for applications for open positions of student representatives in the administration of the University of the Arts Helsinki. You can find all the calls for applications in Finnish here.

Uniarts Helsinki’s administrative organs normally work in Finnish, and at the moment the University requires also student representatives to be fluent in Finnish. As a result, calls for applications for student representatives are usually published only in Finnish, but whenever it is possible for non-Finnish speaking students to apply, we publish English translations of the calls on this page. The Student Union has stated that international students should have full rights to act as student representatives, and we are working with the University to put this into practice as soon as possible.

Sibelius Academy’s recruitment groups, 4 positions

The University of the Arts Student Union is looking for student members for Sibelius Academy’s recruitment groups processing the recruitment of lecturers of various subjects. The task of the recruitment groups is to prepare the recruitments of the professors and lecturers and to present to the Dean a proposal on the person to be selected. The group members include at least two permanent and two recruitment-specific members and one student member who receives a fee of 300 € per recruitment for performing the task.

The recruitment group positions open for applications are:

  • Kantele music lecturer
  • Music technology lecturer I
  • Music technology lecturer II
  • Game and movie music lecturer (music technology)

The position of student member in the recruitment group can be applied for by all registered degree students of Sibelius Academy, but good knowledge of the field and study programme in question is required.

Steering group of Feel Helsinki event and Taidepiste events

The University of the Arts Student Union is looking for one member and one vice member for the control group of Feel Helsinki and Taidepiste events. Feel Helsinki is an annual city festival organized by University of the Arts Helsinki. The goal of the event is to raise the profile of the University and raise funds to support the students of the University. Taidepiste is an event series which explores social phenomena through multidisciplinary discussions and art experiences that are free and open to the public. The student members receive a meeting fee (at least €25 per meeting) for performing the task.

The steering group approves the project plan and budget for the events and decides on the objectives and guidelines of the program. The term of the steering group starts on April 1st, 2021 and lasts until the end of 2022.

All degree students of the University of the Arts Helsinki who have registered to attend can apply as a student member of the steering group.

SVEN group

The University of the Arts Student Union is looking for one member for the University of the Arts Helsinki’s SVEN group, whose purpose is to develop the teaching and other actions that are offered in Swedish. The group is to be founded soon with the rector’s decision and it’s main tasks will include coordination of the university’s education and cooperation in Swedish, tasks related to the language policy of the university and discussing issues related to the strategic role of strengthening the position of Swedish. The term of the group is three years and starts probably around March / April. The student members receive a meeting fee (at least €25 per meeting) for performing the task.

All degree students of the University of the Arts Helsinki who are registered and who are either Swedish speaking or bi-lingual (other language being Swedish) can apply as a student member of the group.

Steering group for ecological sustainability

University of the Arts Student Union is looking for one student representative for the University of the Arts Helsinki’s steering group for ecological sustainability. The term of the group is undefined at least for now. The tasks of the group are to prepare the action plans for one of the main themes of the university’s strategy and to gather annual suggestions for action in resource planning processes and to make proposals to the executive team and the rector. The group’s term is still undefined but it is closely tied to the ongoing strategy term. The student members receive a meeting fee (at least €25 per meeting) for performing the task.

All degree students of the University of the Arts Helsinki who have registered to attend can apply as a student member of the group.

Expert panel for international affairs

University of Arts Student Union is looking for a student representative to propose for the University of the Arts Helsinki’s expert panel for international affairs. The task of the panel is to assist vice rector Jaana Erkkilä-Hilli in the implementation of Ministry of Education and Culture’s internationality program. Later the expert panel will support rector Kaarlo Hildén in international affairs. The term for the representative of the student union is until the end of 2022. The student member receives a meeting fee (at least €25 per meeting) for performing the task.

All degree students of the University of the Arts Helsinki who have registered to attend can apply as the ArtSU candidate to be a student member of the group. The person elected as the candidate should have some vision about developing international affairs. The final decision on the roster of the panel is made by the rectorate.

Education Council of the Theatre Academy

The University of the Arts Student Union is looking for a vice member for the Education Council of the Theatre Academy to from 10 December 2020 until the end on the current term (31 July 2021). The Education Council is an expert body responsible for the development and quality assurance of basic degree education. The tasks of the Council include the development of teaching and artistic-pedagogical activity at the Academy, the preparation of policies concerning them, the approval of the degree requirements of the Academy and plans related to teaching, the acceptance of new undergraduate students, the assessment and approval of master’s theses, the provision of permanent regulations concerning performance activities and the confirmation of the programme of performance activities. The student members receive a meeting fee (at least €25 per meeting) for performing the task.

Appropriate Treatment Working Group of the Academy of Fine Arts

The University of the Arts Student Union is looking for one student member for the Appropriate Treatment Working Group of the Academy of Fine Arts for the mandate period 1.1.2020–31.12.2021. The task of the group is to promote a good work and study atmosphere and to uphold discussion about appropriate and inappropriate treatment. The group will also work to raise awareness of zero tolerance for inappropriate treatment and related guidelines and policies. The group does not deal with individual cases of inappropriate treatment, and the working language of the group is Finnish or English. The student members receive a meeting fee (at least €25 per meeting) for performing the task.
