TaiYo’s candidate Eugenie Touma van der Meulen has been nominated in SYL executive board 2024! TaiYo congratulates! At the national level on the SYL board, Touma van der Meulen will be the first ever TaiYo representative and international student in its history.
“It’s very difficult to describe the feeling of this moment. It’s historic. For too long arts students have been underrepresented in the student movement, and for too long we international students have not been represented at all. We have been talked about, but we never got to participate in the conversation. My aim was to change that. A big thanks to everyone who voted for me for their trust, and to everyone who helped me on the way.”, Eugenie says, and adds;
“The work doesn’t stop here, it’s only just beginning. My goal is and has always been to make closed doors wide enough for everyone to go through. For that, I need everyone in the student movement and in SYL to play their part in making this possible.”
Touma van der Meulen has studied harpsichord in Sibelius Academy and in 2020 they were TaiYo board member responsible for social policy, culture policy and communications. SYL is the National Union of University students in Finland, and it's board has been elected in SYL General Assembly in Tampere 17th to 18th of November 2023.
